BRAIN-SICK

... a condition of society in which there should be neither rich nor poor, neither master nor master’s man, neither idle nor overworked, neither brain-sick brain workers, nor heartsick hand workers, in a world, in which all would be living in equality of condition and would manage their affairs unwastefully, and with the full consciousness that harm to one would mean harm to all—the realization at last of the meaning of the word commonwealth. William Morris

“Time to be one with explosion.” Said Sarah Ferguson as she exploded. As Sarah Ferguson exploded Garfield jumped out of window for escaping.

“You are now explosion but you will always be woman to me.” Said Garfield with remembrance.

Garfield came on table of food with wedding guests sitting around on celebration.

“No lasagna? What is the blasphemy!” Garfield roared in anger as he threw table on wedding guests.

“Lasagna is food of warriors and kings. Do not be forgetting this you worms.” Garfield roared as he walked on.

Garfield soon came upon wedding ceremony with Prince William and Kate Middleton at alter being wed. Everyone heard Garfields manly footsteps like thunder in the sea. Prince William Turned around saw his fears become realities.

“GARFIELD?” Yelled out Prince William in tones of squealing horror.

“How rude have you not heard royal tradition? It is the rules that I am first to have woman before marriage.” Garfield stated with cold fact.

Imagine if we used our computers only for work. The industrial revolution would have never happened if, when you pulled the factory lever one way you made a Model T, and if you moved it the other way, you saw hot girl-on-girl action.

american politics - I think I’ve worked it out. Do conservatives really get as het up as they claim to be about these bizarre issues like women breastfeeding in public or a few foetuses? Well undeniably some do. But the right there has gotten very good at building things up as symbolic issues. They set up a symbolic link with the lurking unspecified ogre of liberalism/socialism, in a way which mirrors the strategic importance of the issue. And the strategic importance of such issues is that they provide a bulwark against moves to the left that liberals might try to make in the future, should they gain power. If liberals spend all their time fighting outrageous acts or proposals then they lose momentum before getting to the things they would really like to do, like (some very mild forms of) redistributive taxation. Push deep into your enemy’s territory, then by the time they’ve rallied their armies back to the front they’ve already lost half of their country.

So you find someone (preacher, talk show host, ambitious local politician) who really believes that the sight of a nipple is abhorrent, use them to whip up public fury, giving dignity to people’s unspoken fears - by allowing them to appear in apparently legitimate public debate - and the dignity feeds through into a strengthened sense of conservative Christian identity. And that identity in turn means people are increasingly ready to read something that threatens-them-but-they-can’t-articulate-why, as a real threat to their way of life. The more outrageous the issue, the better - shock and awe as a tactic in the political battle, like Israel’s use of outrageous military action to push the range of negotiable outcomes progressively in its favour.

The left on the whole is bad at this. The Obama campaign did something similar to win the election, building a narrative that successfully linked the discredited Bush and Cheney, the financial crisis, and troubles in Afghanistan and Iraq together, to make financial and healthcare reform more palatable - a narrative that seems to have fallen apart now that the ogrous old regime has been binned. In the UK, Labour did manage to assign some issues to the dustbin which it labelled as backwards, corrupt, uncaring conservatism. At the same time it dragged others out of the sewer and adopted them proudly as its own. And even fox-hunting looks likely to make a comeback

When the drugs were given together, ethanol blocked caffeine’s ability to make the mice more anxious. Conversely, caffeine did not reverse ethanol’s negative effect on learning. As a result, alcohol calmed the caffeine jitters, leaving an animal more relaxed but less able to avoid threats — a combination that the authors speculated could make people more likely to believe they are not drunk or not impaired enough to have problems functioning. …
